12/20/13 Unnamed 6145 #11

Frost-covered pine
On the 20th of December I was heading to Denver to pick up Carrie from the airport for her winter break.  Since the flight wasn't coming in too early I decided to do a quick hike before going to Denver.  I had hiked in the Rabbit Mountain Open Space and climbed Rabbit Mountain just less than one week earlier and had seen Unnamed 6145 from the summit of Rabbit Mountain.  It looked like a fun and easy climb.  So I headed back to climb another peak in the open space on the 20th.
I started at the trailhead and headed up the Little Thompson Overlook Trail.  At some point, I found a drainage that led up the mountain and I left the trail and made my way to the summit ridge.  The day was a bit cloudy and perfect for the stealth needed to get up there.  I worked my way through the sparse ponderosa pines and the brush and found myself on the rocky and relatively open ridge.  As it was a bit cloudy I did not have the great views I had when I climbed Rabbit Mountain, but it was a lovely morning and I enjoyed my short time up on the summit.
View to Rabbit Mountain
After a bit up top I found a slightly different way back down to the trail more to the south than where I had first left the trail.  Once back on the trail it was a quick walk back to the car.
